LEICESTER’S FRIENDLY CYCLING CLUB SINCE 1923
At LFCC we are an inclusive club and welcome anyone with an interest in cycling regardless of experience or ability into the club.
We are a volunteer run organisation that supports cyclists and the interests of cyclists in our local community. If you’re interested in cycling in Leicester and Leicestershire, we’d love to hear from you, please drop us a line.
Membership
Britain has seen a boom in cycling in recent years and we’re here to support everyone from leisure cyclists and cycle commuters to long-distance riders and racers of all disciplines.
We have a membership totalling over 200 members in 2023, including over 30 female members and 50+ youth ‘Rockets’ members.
We have riders taking part in a wide variety of rides, events and disciplines including club rides, Audax, mountain biking, track cycling, time-trialling, cyclocross, touring and so much more.
We hold an annual celebration and awards evening each year where we get to kick back, celebrate the members’ successes and share a few laughs over some food and drinks.
Riding with LFCC
With riders wearing their LFCC colours all over the world on any given day, you’ve probably seen the green, yellow, white and black bands of our iconic jerseys at some point - and of course it’s hard to miss them on the roads of Leicestershire at the weekend.
The major events of our week are the Saturday club run and the Sunday social ride.
The weekly club runs are group rides catering for different abilities and speeds, all starting from the Bulls Head on the A47, Leicester Forest West, you can find out more on our club run page.
Our Sunday Social is just that, a leisurely social ride, not too long and suitable for all ages and abilities and those who haven’t done a group ride before.
If you’re curious about joining a ride, we’d love to welcome you along to a ride or two to give us a try and find out which ride is for you. Drop us a line to membership@leicesterforest.com and we’ll get you on a ride, no ties, no catches.
If racing is your thing then we have you covered. The club hosts a number of racing events throughout the year including our prestigious road race, the Leicester round of the Leicestershire cyclo-cross league, a time trial series, the Leicester Cycle Circuit round of the East Midlands Youth Road Race League and Youth Cluster sessions at Derby Arena Velodrome to name just a few. Please check our events calendar for more information or drop Andreas, our racing secretary a line to racing@leicesterforest.com
The Rockets - our youth section
Our Rockets are the future of our club and they are amazing, a team of two-wheeled heroes.
If your pocket rocket wants to get into cycling for fun, fitness, pleasure, challenge, to develop skills, to race or just to be part of an awesome club, we’d love to have them along.
Rockets coaching sessions run every other Monday from 6:15 - 7:45 PM at the purpose-built, traffic-free Leicester Cycle Circuit on the New College campus in Leicester.
Our coaching sessions are designed for skill development and training in a range of disciplines and are delivered by our team of British Cycling accredited volunteer coaches in a safe environment. Central to everything we do at Rockets is fun - if the young people are enjoying themselves they will engage with the sessions and their development will skyrocket… which it truly does.
Rockets coaching sessions are open to all 5-16 year olds. We just ask that you have a bike of any kind in good working order and wear a helmet, gloves and a smile for the session. If you’re struggling with a bike, helmet or gloves, drop us a line, we’ll be able to help out.
We’d love for you to come and give us a try, everyone’s first session is free and the club subsidises our sessions so currently each session costs £3.29.
To find out more, book a free session or chat about the sessions please drop Dom our Rockets Secretary a line to rockets@leicesterforest.com
A bit of club history
Founded in 1923 by a group of enthusiasts in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, Leicester Forest Cycling Club is one of the oldest and most respected cycling clubs in the UK.
In its centenary year, the club is proud to continue to serve its diverse local community in Leicester and Leicestershire, to provide opportunities at every level for anyone interested in cycling and to represent the interests of cyclists in our city and county.
In the last century the club has had significant impact on the cyclists of Leicester and Leicestershire and has produced many local, county and national champions in all aspects of cycle racing; cyclo-cross, mountain biking, time trials, road, track and beyond.
LFCC has a proud history of being an organised, sensibly structured and well-managed club. This history continues today, with the club achieving British Cycling Go-Ride club status and being accredited as part of the Club Development Programme. This makes the club one of a select group of British cycling clubs to achieve this status which recognises and rewards high standards in fun, inclusivity, safety and club management.
Many of the club's members have been well respected and efficient officials and administrators. For example, LFCC organised the 1954 25 mile RTTC Championships and then in 1974 the RTTC 12 Hours Championship. Club members have also played major roles at Track Championships both at National and World level.
With an improved awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, a national focus on active travel and the increase in the popularity of cycle-sport due to success of British athletes on the world stage, our numbers are reflecting the current boom in cycling and our membership has almost doubled in the last 20 years.
As we take the club into its second century our aims are to continue to add meaning to being Leicestershire’s friendly cycling club through increasing opportunities to participate in cycling, improving diversity and furthering inclusivity in our club, focussing on the development of the next generation of LFCC riders - who are our future - and to continue to represent the interests of bicycle riders in Leicester and Leicestershire. Drop us a line, we’d love to have you with us on the ride.
